Persistent immune - tolerance to non - inherited maternal antigen ( NIMA ) allows successful kidney transplantation in regraft patient : Case report

چکیده
Kidney transplantation is the therapy of choice for patients with end stage renal disease. Graft survival is optimal when donor and recipient are fully match for the human leukocyte antigens (HLA), however due to the high degree of polymorphism of HLA, in most situation, this is not possible. Therefore haploidentical (partially matched) siblings, parents or off-spring are considered as potential donor. The patient inherits the maternal HLA-antigen (IMA) from the mother and paternal antigen (IPA) from the father. Figure 1 illustrates how a parent or sibling can share one haplotypes with the recipient and Abstract

Tolerogenic effect of non-inherited maternal antigens in hematopoietic stem cell transplantation
Major histocompatibility complex antigens that provoke severe transplant reactions are referred to as the human leukocyte antigen (HLA) in human and as the H-2 in mice. Even if the donor and recipient are HLA-identical siblings, graft-versus-host reactions have been linked to differences in the minor histocompatibility antigen. As the chance of finding an HLA-identical sibling donor is only 25%...
متن کاملImmunobiology of exposure to non-inherited maternal antigens.
Exposure to non-inherited maternal antigens (NIMA) has life-long immunological consequences that may result in tolerance or immunity to these antigens. Gaining understanding of the mechanisms behind these NIMA effects will impact many areas of immunology. This review summarizes new discoveries relevant to autoimmunity and organ transplantation regarding exposure to maternal antigens. In light o...

Non-inherited maternal antigens (NIMA) are those protein products derived from polymorphic genes that the mothers express but not the offspring. During normal human pregnancy, a bidirectional regulation occurs in such a way that the maternal immune system tolerates the inherited paternal antigens (IPA) expressed by the fetus and the developing fetal immune system tolerates NIMA. The process by ...

Human leukocyte antigen (HLA)-mismatched stem cell transplantation from non-inherited maternal antigen (NIMA)-complementary donors is known to produce stable engraftment without inducing severe graft-versus-host disease (GVHD). We treated two patients with acute myeloid leukemia (AML) and one patient with severe aplastic anemia (SAA) with HLA-mismatched stem cell transplantation (SCT) from NIMA...
متن کاملTolerance to noninherited maternal antigens, reproductive microchimerism and regulatory T cell memory: 60 years after ‘Evidence for actively acquired tolerance to Rh antigens’
Compulsory exposure to genetically foreign maternal tissue imprints in offspring sustained tolerance to noninherited maternal antigens (NIMA). Immunological tolerance to NIMA was first described by Dr. Ray D. Owen for women genetically negative for erythrocyte rhesus (Rh) antigen with reduced sensitization from developmental Rh exposure by their mothers. Extending this analysis to HLA haplotype...
